My Trip Begins

I left home on Tuesday morning (7/24/07) and arrived in St. George in the late afternoon. After checking in to my motel, I drove north and west through Hurricane, UT, then 15 miles down Highway 58 to a gravel road (well maintained) to an extinct volcano. I planned to search for volcanic bombs, which are globs of lava ejected explosively from a volcano that then fall to earth, distorting into rounded shapes that are hard when they hit the ground. I found a few, plus some cool looking lava flows, one of which looks like a horse's tail.
